Easedale to High Raise and back - Photo Gallery
Friday 26th December 2008, it was dry but cold, there was very little traffic on the motorway and even less on the road through Ambleside; it was not quite light when I got to Grasmere, so the tourists were not up and about yet. I walked up the Easedale Road and followed the Helm Crag path but turned off to Far Easedale, following the rough track until it crossed the beck at Seathwaite Steps, there is now a footbridge alternative to the dodgy stepping stones. I walked up the grassy ridge to the summit of Tarn Crag, and followed the confusing ridge up to Codale Head. I found the path to Sergeant Man, it had become cold enough for the mud to be frozen solid, and then followed the obvious path to the summit of High Raise; I still had the place to myself. I found the other obvious path to Thunacar Knott, when the sun came out; I had to take my hat off as it warmed up and then my gloves came off as I walked over to the summit of Pavey Ark, where it was suddenly busy with walkers. I contoured around the head of Bright Beck, and found the faint path that keeps below the ridge of Sergeant Man before joining it just in time for the undulating ridge of Blea Rigg. I found its summit and then found the hidden path down to Easedale Tarn; I got back to Grasmere just before it got dark and immediately cold.
