Cofa Pike Fog and Crampons - Photo Gallery

It was trying to rain at home but by the time I parked in Glenridding it was another clear cold day, except for the cloud-covered Helvellyn. I struggled through pathless woods to reach the top of Stybarrow Crag before making a direct climb up the front of Glenridding Dodd, steep and interesting to the point of being demanding. I carried on down the the col and climbed the interesting Heron Crag and on up to the summit of Sheffield Pike. I walked down to Nick Head, into the soft snow, and plodded uphill without thinking where I was going; I reached the cairn on White Stones before realising I still had another strenuous plod through snow to reach the summit of Hart Side. I made a beeline towards Stybarrow Dodd, then decided I had enough of the soft snow so carried on to Sticks Pass without climbing up the hill. I walked down the partially-reconstructed path by the side of Sticks Gill, through the old quarry workings and down to Greenside Mine, before walking down the Greenside Road back to Glenridding.
