Little Newlands Round - Photo Gallery
Sunday 20th September, it was a sunny morning when I got to Little Town; I walked along the small, gated road past Newlands Church and followed the track through the farmyard at Low High Snab. I walked up the pleasant valley of Little Dale up to an unexpected Dam and Reservoir, and then turned right to climb steeply on grass up to the ridge. I made the thought-provoking scramble up the ridge of Blea Crags, and eventually walked less steeply up to the summit of Robinson. I descended to Littledale Edge, and took the slanting path up to the summit of Hindscarth, before walking back down to Hindscarth Edge. I walked up to the busy summit of Dale Head, then down to Dalehead Tarn, I crossed the beck and made the long haul up to summit of High Spy. I walked across the plateau to the unusually busy viewpoint cairn on Low Scawdell and then over to Maiden Moor; I kept to the path along the edge, above Newlands, to the new cairn – somebody's best guess about the summit. I walked down to a col, the descent is quite rugged in places, and very close to the edge, before walking up to the small but perfectly formed summit of Cat Bells. It's a fairly easy, but still interesting, scramble down to Skelgill Bank; I turned left down a grassy path through the bracken, to a mine track that took me past its mine to reach another track going back to Little Town.
