Skew Gill to Foxes Tarn - Photo Gallery

It was a sunny morning when I parked at Brackenclose, I walked to Wasdale Head using the off-road footpaths where I could; I walked up the track to Burnthwaite Farm, and then followed Lingmell Beck up the valley. Just after passing the watersmeet with Piers Gill, I crossed over the beck, and started climbing steadily up a small path, until I reached the wide scree-filled gill at the start of the Corridor Route. I climbed up Skew Gill, clambering over boulders at first, between steep-sided rock walls; then the gully gets steeper and narrower, boulders are replaced by bare rock, and I was splashing through the water flowing down the gill. After a last awkward to get out of the gully after scrambling up the daunting final rock wall, I climbed up the rocky ridge to the top of The Band. I made the steep climb up to the summit of Great End, walked across the broad summit plateau, and descended to Calf Cove. I went to visit the summits of Ill Crag and Broad Crag before making the busy final ascent to Scafell Pike. The mist rolled in as I descended to Mickledore, and then down the badly eroded stony path to the start of Foxes Tarn Gully. It was properly misty by the time I reached the tarn, it started raining properly as I was climbing the steep remnants of the path up to Scafell; I walked over to its summit before making the steep but relatively quick descent of Green How back to the car park.
